Life Lessons For Little Ones 1/4/2010 7:41:55 PM
Today our son took me to my first chemo treatment. First of all the dog would not hardly come in on time before we left. The snow had been blowing across the road all night ane the roads were slick in spots. We got there at 9:00A.M. and left at about 3:30P.M.
It went really well compared that with this body that has reactions to some medicines, I was afraid that I would go into a coma the minute that chemo hit my veins, and to my surprise I only had a mild reaction to the one that some people react to.
One guy told me that a good thing came out of him having cancer. He couldn't empty the litter box for their cat anymore and his wife had to take over that chore. I told him that I didn't have to sweep anymore and my husband has to do it now. Jeff told one of my doctors that he did a better job than I did anyway. I did the sweeping fine he just had a grandmother that liked to clean and dust everyday. I told him that if he had asked me if I liked to clean I would have told him that it is not my main reason for living like it was for his grandmother.
I told that man that having cancer still has some benefits. Did you know that if you tell a telemarketer that you have cancer you do not have to make an excuse to get off of the phone. They will do it for you, you cannot believe how fast they can get off of the phone if they want to. You just have to look for the good in every situation you are in.
Both of my cousins had suggested that they come and keep my company today during my treatment, and I told them to wait until the day after just in case it didn't go well. They didn't listen and came just as I was about to take the one that I did have the reaction to. My one cousin that lives the closest to me made me,my daughter, and each of them a breast cancer bracelet to wear during this process. We were all supposed to get together while my daughter was home for Christmas, but her son got the flu and she had to take care of him. They kept him in the hospital for a while and then sent him home with her. He is fine now. I thought that was pretty sweet of her to think of such a thing!
Some of the people I met today are so nice, and it makes me so sad that they have to go through this. Some won't make it through. I do not know how people go through something like this without God's help, let alone life in general. Later - Lori
