Tragedy in Newtown 12/15/2012 7:55:49 AM
The Congress and the Executive Office should share some blame for another 27 killed by guns in the hands of the mentaly ill. A tradgedy that hits home. Twenty kids age five to seven killed by a deranged shooter. Like incidents have happened before when a mentaly ill shooter has acquired a gun (guns)for killing. The killing fields of late have been a theater in Colorado; a college in Virginia or in the past a high school in California called Columbine... There are Too many more than just those.
Why?...because congress and presidential leadership have failed the people of United States by being influenced by a strong lobbying National Rifle Association (NRA)and the gun manufacturers.
The NRA and gun manufacturers own many congressmen and women on both sides Democratic, Republican and Independant when it comes to voting against assault rifle banning and record screening of those people who buy guns. Our country's leadership have failed to pass legislation that would place logical controls, namely; assault rifle restrictions and screening of an individual buyer, like one who is mentaly ill. Sadly, Congress fears loss of campaign funds and votes as they hide behind their loose interpretation of the second ammendment.
Was the intent of the second amendment of the constitution to allow citizens to own guns for hunting, sport shooting and in some cases protection...Yes! How about assault rifles with 30 round clips or putting those same guns in the hands of the disturbed...No!
We all can imagine the grief of those parents who lost a young child and share some of their sorrow. Do we share the angst against our government that may have stopped this tradgedy by voting on preventive legislation beyond the lobbying of the NRA and Gun manufacturers?
My first novel, A Deadly Class Reunion, touched on the warped motivation of a mentaly ill shooter who entered another killing field.
