On Being Lazy

Some days are just meant for the old beddy.

My alarm went off the other day

In my cozy bed I chose to stay

Had no sick excuse for the boss

Simply motivation a total loss

Did not feel bad

Did not feel sad

Did not feel mad

Felt just fine

Mind wasn’t hazy

I just felt…….

Lazy

It happens now then as I grow old

Resistance is futile so I’ve been told

Floors in heaven are paved with rose

Mine are paved with. …..

Dead mosquitoes

They invade my house nearly every spring

They just fly in and shed their wings

Giant ones but they don’t bite

They just gather up themselves and die…..

Every night

I finally rousted myself from the bed

Made the short trek to the head

Scraped squashed mosquitoes from my feet

And tried to figure out what for breakfast…..

I should eat

Then I had to decide if I should shave

Considering the energy I could save

Letting stubble sprout didn’t seem too crazy

Because I was feeling really, really ….

Lazy

Majority wins when I’m the boss

This day was going to be a total loss

Starting out with making breakfast as I please

Thought I’d make an omelet but all I had was……

Moldy cheese

You know moldy cheese is really OK

It’s a pain to scrape and just melts away

Yeah the omelet had a funny shade of green

It tasted fine and I ate it all but my motivation level….

Morally obscene

Then I looked at the dog and he looked at me

This morning’s walk was not meant to be

Got the evil eye that only a dog scorned can do

So he made his way out onto the deck and dumped a…..

Major poo

I was of course not much amused

My lazy morning had just got abused

I knew better but decided that the mess could wait

I didn’t realize then that I had taken…..

The doggie’s bait

A little later on I wandered outside

To admire the early morning and to try and decide

How best to waste the balance of this fine day

Not looking where I walked and  it didn’t take too long……

To go astray

There’s nothing really good about squishy toes

When the squishing in question attacks the nose

And trying to get that damn dog’s silly grin out of my head

My lazy bubble had just been burst and that made me want to….

Go back to bed

So I went back to bed and I want to say

That sometimes lazy just don’t pay

But ornery is as ornery does and it won’t accept defeat

I almost got away with my lazy day till the wife noticed.....

The brown spot on the sheet

If you work 10 hour days, 6 days a week, by golly, you deserve a day to be lazy. Just wash your feet, okay? And don't blame the dogs, Sir Laz-a-lot.

Okay, Patrick, I know where you live and mosquitoes just ain't a major thing in Southern California, especially where you live... But, and a big but here, dog shit may very well be a big part of where you live. But having it squish through your toes? Come on! Squishy toe shit. That, my friend, I know can make for a real... uh, a real shitty day.

Hope your wife remembers that you did save the house after that porch fire, because she "could" throw you out for that brown spot on her sheets...Ed

The nice thing about retirement is that all of my days are lazy days, and happily I have no dog droppings to watch out for, or mosquitos for that matter.

Cheers,
Dan

Before I got to your last line, I was wondering if you'd washed your feet... (lol!) I suppose we're all entitled to a lazy day now and then. Thanks, Patrick. Love and peace,

Regis

That's quite a bit of verse for a "lazy" guy. This poem has all the hallmarks of a classic. Dead mosquitos, dog shit, moldy cheese, right up my alley! Man after my own heart.

Your story is cute. I've never heard of mosquitoes that don't bite; but I have heard of infestations of termites that swarm at a certain time every year and leave their little white wings scattered across the floor. I sure hope it's mosquitoes instead of termites, else they might eat your house down around you on one of those lazy stay at home days. <grin>

You are a silly man, in today's world this should be the way of all.
You keep me laughing. Have a Lazy Day, but do walk the dog!
