In praise of Roses
I watched the petals
of a Rose fall
one by one
till all were gathered
on the ground
scattered all about.
They look so sad untidy
without that grace
their glory gone,
even their Yellow
has faded
to a dull shade of white.
I look with sadness at this array
yet gratitude I have
for all they had given
like hundreds of Suns
for so many mornings
from May to September
shimmering on a fence.
So I look forward to their return
once again
next year
farewell fallen petals
laying on the ground.
