Thoughts Of Autumn

As I swing, on a hammock
Lazily
Sipping on a tropical cocktail
Reminiscing melancholy thoughts
Of September days past
Cool breeze, surrounding me
As I walk
Through wooded scenes
The wonderful sounds
Of dry fallen leaves
Crackling, under my feet
As I walk recklessly
Without a care
Down a dirt trail
Watching
The leaves of multi hues
swirling, to their final destination
Cushioning the forest ground
For the coming, fragile snowflakes
My mind has no physical pain
Feelings as I see myself
There
But my body couldn't begin
To take, a first step
Without my trusted cane
As I am here
Trying to ease my pain.

A beautifully quiet poem, William, perhaps why the "intrusion" of the cane upon your thoughts also provides a stark contrast in the piece... your writing here is nearly mystical... really lovely. katy xox.

William, Autumn seems to be the healing season for many. Something almost magical seems to stir within us when the greens fade and the brilliance of Fall bursts forward to see.
Truly beautiful write, it was a stroll we all could enjoy.

Very well done, William. Exceptional imagery, use of both visual and aural. Also, the piece moves beyond the purely existential to a sense of loss in independence and mobility as well as vulnerability to which many of us can relate.

Nice one, William. The opening lazy scene and the attempt to ease pain at the end provide a nice contrast.
