I've forgotten
What an Indian Summer
Was like
Sweating out doors
In late November
70 degrees
No beach to go to
No blossoms to view
No Rose nor wild flowery
Perfume
Lingering in what was thought
Summer noon air
Fewer birds singing
Squirrels daring, out of their nest
Gathering nuts
Noticed are the dry autumn leaves
Bear winter trees
Shorter days
Longer cold nights
Just another Indian Summer
Upstate somewhere
In the north
Traveling through our minds.

It is almost end of summer here 2008, I know I am looking forward to Indian Summer. As a child I waited for it to come so I could shed my coat again. Mother used to say, You'll get sick put that coat back on. Now 2008 in a new place, I look forward to that Indian Summer too. The trees outside my apt. are many and I know it will be colorful fall this year for me too.

This is a very enjoyable poem to read. I remember hearing about "Indian Summer" and "Blackberry Winter." But, here in the south, we have a lot of Indian Summers. Many warm Christmases and even a warm day in January now and then. Excellent write.

Beautiful images, William. Here, in New Mexico, we seem to get random days of Indian Summer all winter long. It doesn't last long, though. Too soon it is back to cold nights and rainy/snowy mornings with sunny afternoons. People here often speak of how, in a single day, we often experience all four seasons. It is so very true.
Take care,
Sherry

Indian Summer has come and gone quickly here this year. It didn't linger as long as most in the past.
You made me yearn for those days to return William, for I love to walk through the woods and down the deer trails to see what I can see.
Thanks for sharing! Happy Thanksgiving.

Lisa
