She stirs the MRE
(Meal ready to eat)
Issued by the military
Just add water and stir
Someone
Was instructing her there
As she stir and stared
A thousand miles away
An exhausted dog laied near by
But she wasn't there
She was here at the pier
Her facial expression said it all
she knew not
Nor did she know what
Lost everything
Nothing to claim
No place to bed
Not just yet
The red tape, Red Cross
Has not assigned her, yet a bed.
Still she stirs and stares
Haven't eaten in a few days
She don't know that
The shock is too deep
She's cold
But no one knows it
She's too busy stiring and staring.
She slowly raises the spoon
To her lips
To taste food, not blest yet
And no one there to say grace
She stares over the waters
As a dead human body
Just floats on by
She was never the wise
She was just misplaced.
O M G William- This hit the Gut- HARD- So sadly true- and those MRE are still pretty tasty-- I ate them years ago- We know they are eating good food, but not homecooking- That is sad - someday soon - I wish I could go there and cook for them- I love to cook and I could help-but,I am needed by my job-My prayers are with them all- and time will tell-Great Poem-WArmly,Sheee
It is terrible the way people suffered during and after Katrina's wake. It is also amazing to see their strength. Very descriptive poem, filled with emotion. ~ Sara
Oh William, the images we have seen the last few days are heart-rending, you captured this terrible moment perfectly, my prayers are with those who have lost everything.

It's got me clining from word to word because it's so cleverly
written and the contents finaly reveal the main subject in just the

William, this piece illustrates the growing frustration that many have faced since Katrina smashed through the Gulf Coast Region. Hopefully those who have been directly affected by this enormous disaster will soon find the solace and comfort they deserve. Furthermore, since Katrina sliced through our nation, far too many corporations, criminals and/or street thugs have taken advantage, which were caused by this unfortunate occurrence. Excellent work. Thanks for sharing. Take care and be well.
