Nature unfolds before me
Shares she does this beautiful, early morning
The air is damp
With a heavy morning dew.

The wet lands behind
Where my dwelling stands
Is teaming with wild birds
Six storks I've counted
Three eaglets, and several white birds
With downward bend beaks.

What fascinated me
This day
Was a distant sound
Of a woodpeacker's
Machine gun sound, searching for treats
'Neath unseen three bark.

Yes the air is full today
With sounds
A hawk just flew passed me
Screeching in the sky highs
Hunting never the less
Nearby.

The mockingbird
She's serenading all
With her sweet lullabies
The grass is greener
Even in this rearly January
My roses bloomed
Lilac florets, hanging decroratively
Scenting my senses.

I've planted two avocado pits
Several months ago
Now two young trees
I care for, in large pots
With their lovely large green leafs.

The sun had already risen
Presently
Blocked by gray clouds
The sound of the woodpecker
Nears even closer.

Straight ahead
Like a miracle
Nature grants me the vision
Of a Red Headed Woodpecker
As he flew to the nearest tree
Near me.

Thank you for the lovely and refreshing nature walk. I, too, love
woodpeckers. Though I confess I cringe when they mistake metal for wood. Partly because I worry they will hurt themselves. Picture their poor beaks after a couple hours! Love all birds...hmmm....whipoorwills {sp?} c a n keep you awake...but really. Especially now that so many species are endangered -- the whole of Nature????? -- it is so good to see them and hear them. . .'in person' or through vivid and well-executed poems such
as this. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 'pEA' <3

Refreshing, inspired piece, William.
Where would we be without our wild feathered friends to bring
even more wonder to Nature's nest?
Much enjoyed this read.
Peace,
Carolyn
