Sliced Strawberries
Adorns my morning serving
Of honeys oats cherrios
My first spoonful
Energetically exploded
In my mouth
With the sweetness of nature
As my soul did
While squinting towards
The eastern part, of the wetlands
That graces my panoramic view
Of my enclosed patio
While having my breakfast.
The warm gentle sun
Is adjusting itself to
The baby blue clear sky above
This beautiful morning
Is promsing
To be a more then perfect
Spring to summer day
I hear
A barrage of distinct
Different bird calls
The cranes and eaglets
Are foraging elsewhere
Leaving me wondering
Whos is guarding their nest.
The female
Of a pair of resident hawks
Stopped her mournful calls
For her mate
Who is presently M.I.A
She carried on for two days
With a constant call
Perched high above, near her nest
I guessed, so her mate
Can find his way home
I haven't observed him
Since the first day
I heard her sad calls
He must have met
His untimely demised
While on aerial patrol.
A baby garden snake drifted
Into my patio enclosure
Causing some excitement
To my not too brave wife
So I came to her rescue
"The baby snake's that is"
I gently swept her
into a duster
as she struck and attempted
To bite the broom,
I released her
Back to her environment
Several feet away from my patio
Wondering
How she gained entrance
In the first place.
I finished my breakfast
As I was re-entering my house
To accomplished a list
Of daily chores, my wife
Had in mind
I heard the distinct
Echoeing calls of the sand cranes
Across a distance, within the swamp.

A very nice poem. Can you believe that I've never seen a wild snake before, we don't get them in the UK. It's interesting to here about someone elses natural environment. We don't have sand cranes either, and I'm pretty sure that there aren't any swamps, maybe little ones.
A wonderful capture of the sights and sounds of morning in your part of the world, except that snake part, beautiful visuals William...
love and peace,

I wasn't sure where your write was going, but I was ready to pour a bowl of cereal...honey nut cheerios one of my favorites, and the strawberries sounds heavenly with them..but soon into your write, I was captivated with a stroll into your world, outstanding imagery and very warm and inviting...enjoyed this my friend!
Blessings,

I wonder whatever happened to that hawk, if one day you find out let us know.
About strawberries...imagine WWII, summer, sleepless, morning and by the foxhole the first sun rays pointing to a bunch of wild strawberries. The sweetest of all breakfast then...and never another one like it sinse.
Thanks for wake me up to that though.

The morning unfolds before our eyes in beautiful verse: you take the reader there, with all the senses stimulated. Thank you! I enjoyed this interlude on this rainy night in Texas. :)
