*****NOTE*****
This one is For You Mr.Ed

An Armadillo
Has burrowed a hole
Behind a bush
In front of my house
Out of sight
From the common grounds
Of the public.

My wife wants me
To do something about it
What can I do
Destroy his newly
Constructed home
Poison him?
I asked my wife.

We are the intruders
Of his and other’s domain
I’ll do nothing of a kind
I shall allow him
To reside next to me
For I am honored
He has selected my property
To share his domain with.

The burrow is still there
Out of sight
Untouched by me
Am I
Doing the right thing?
I think so
They dine on earthworms, termites, ants
God knows what other pest
He’ll rid me of.

The way I see it
He’s doing me a solid
Without me
Ever bothering to ask him
Now I am searching for a name
To baptize my new found friend.

Descruction would only lead you to a pain level that you could not share with your spouse. Let the animal be. He's fine eating and ridding you of pests.

Got to agree with Ron...good man
And being a friend of nature is a admirable attribute.
I salute you.

What a great guy! I applaud your decision to live side by side with. . . a suit of armor! Every year we have baby bunnies burrowed in the flower beds. We have to move them only because out Rotties want to play with them and you know how that will end up. Great poem and Mr. Ed will be so proud!

I truly love this story in poetic form, dear William... and I'm wholeheartedly with you, in your defense of your new friend. We are, in fact, the "intruders" and the ones responsible for imbalanced environments - theirs as our own, as we often forget that ALL is entwined, and there's no breaking one of the links without endangering the harmony of the whole. Bless you for seeking that harmony... and I'll be looking forward to reading about the little "Digger's" new name. :0)
Love,
Alexandra*

Hey! Willie is not bad...he could get a worse one :) :) :)
We had once a couple of wild porcupines living on the bushes of our garden, we never had cat trouble either, just now and then an horrified MEOW!!!! when putting their nose not on their business.
Mr. Ed should be proud of you WB.

Beautiful, William: the only armadillos I've seen are speed bumps. No, take that back: saw a little armoured tank once behind my apartment, didn't know what it was. :) Cute little guy, but did you know they'll chase ya? Determined to bulldoze his way through life...thanks for reminding me we share their world. :) Well done.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

This is beautiful William, to understand that we share this world with other creatures who have a right to be here is a lesson we all need to learn. I loved this.

You are my new Hero, William! And I truly wish there were many more like you. As we humans encroach more and more on wildlife habitat, we somehow have to learn to live with them, not destroy them, if we hope to leave our children and grandchildren a world that still contains Nature.

Many of my former neighbors took great lengths to poison and trap every wild critter around their homes, from chipmunks to rabbits, to possums, and raccoons.

And now, coyotes prey on their pet dogs and cats because they robbed them of their natural foods. They wouldn't listen to me, so I actually had to move to protect my own pets.

Everything in Nature has a purpose, and I truly hope mankind can learn this, before it's much too late.

And I think you should name him Willie!
