I have noticed that when I came home from hospital that all seemed brighter, better in so many ways. I appreciated all and was so much more aware of my surroundings.
An honor for dedicated poetry.
For anyone like us, who may have faced
death many times before, I think we tended not to notice the little joys of life, like your Cardinal.
Three days ago I was lying on a float in the pool. there was a fast moving front coming through and the big puffy clouds were changing fast. I saw faces, animals, and seriously felt lucky to watch this, one of natures fancy.
Make sure to keep walking, and enjoy the things that let you know you are truly alive.

It's wonderful to hear you getting outdoors and enjoying the birds around you. I watch them but I can hear them through the air-conditioned window. I will go out front to sit in the sun shortly. Occasionally a bird happens by that little breezeway, but when it gets a look at me as swiftly passes on. Still the many white winged doves in the area are cooling constantly and I can hear that mournful sound every time I'm out there.
Beautifully done, William. You described nature at its very best, and the birds songs, especially the Mama Cardinal, may have truly been welcoming you home, letting you understand that you had been missed.
