The walker
Once again on a journey
Came upon
A construction site
In a once upon a time
non developed Area
of the country side.
Homes being erected
Some almost finished
Some only wooden skeleton
Other lots being evenly
Grazed
By monstrous dozers
With unbearable
Thunderous nose.
I was flabbergasted
By my next unexpected
Sight
On the middle of the road
On this hot summer day
A lone creature and myself
Occupied the same road.
What was he doing their?
Where was he heading to?
Where did he originated
From.
I carefully
Surveyed the area around me
Observed no carrion,
Nor road kill.
As foul as this tiny
creature Is
He done me no wrong
So I was proud
To share this portion of the road
We both occupied
Just me and the lonely
Maggot slowly wiggling
Along a road
Abreast me.
Very observant, Pilgrim. So glad you are out walking and finding maggots to observe. Fortunately or unfortunately, if he was in the street, he won't be able to get to be the fly he was destined to be. Deadly dehydration had probably already set in.
The man in the poem is on some kind of deathly journey. He may now be only accompanied by a lone maggot at the beginning of this journey; but soon there will be other maggots joining them. - At least that's how I've read this poem. But then again, I may be reading this wrong.
Don't know how you could tell the maggot was lonely. Me? I'm not all that sociable with maggots. Yeah, I know, they are breathing things of wonder, but lonely or not I have a feeling I wouldn't been so personally taken by the maggot.
