Walking westward
My back towards a colorful
Sunrise
Promising a warm clear day
Like a stealth chopper
He lower himself
Into a grassy drainage ditch
As quick as lightning
His talons snatched an amphibian
Suddenly becoming airborne
Just as stealthily, as his landing
Without missing a stride
Of his silent wings
Taking his prey, to a tree top
The frog croaked his last
As the hawk's meal, won't last
He immediately devoured ,
His well earned hunt
In the silent of dawn
Where he silhouettes
Hues of bright orange skies
A sight that proclaims him
Master of the skies
As he screeched
His piercing screams
That Hawk
Beautifies my mind, eternally.
I have always been in awe of birds of prey...painted them, photographed them, fed them, and just sat outdoors watching
them.
A fine poem here, William!
William..I believe I watched this very scenario yesterday. We have two hawks that stay in the tip top of an old oak tree behind the house..They are very enjoyable to watch..well that is until they feed on my baby rabbits anyway...
