Life and its many dangers,
surely we all want to be strangers.
Some go in harms way,
knowing they're made of breakable clay.
Many survive their escapades,
only to continue other crusades.
I use to be one of these daredevils,
but now I function on safer levels.

The U.S. soldier fights our wars,
in the process they recieve many scars.
Parents, don't wait till your son joins,
then start protesting his military goings.
Stop him from signing up before,
try to pull him back in the door.
If he signs up to fight,
war may end up in his sight.

Parents on tv protesting
their children in the military,
this is too late to the contrary.
Its being a day late and a dollar short,
your sons already at the fort.
I wouldn't allow my son to join,
then complain where he's going.

I would discuss,
then if he went on after the fuss,
I wish him luck before he got on the bus.
You wouldn't catch me out later,
protesting like a war hater.

Destiny would come into play,
I wouldn't have anything else to say,
but I would pray.

But maybe this is just in my inking,
a thought in my head thinking.
A safe distant deplore,
not after the door,
may heal the
sore.

This has a wonderful rhythm, as well as an honest and clear message. I also love the way you make your final point as a visual "point". Poetry Slams and things of that nature started well after I began writing, and I've never actually experienced one. I'm not even sure I'd feel comfortable attending one. But this is a piece I would love to hear "performed".

Common sense approach to situations like this is the best, but then common sense is not what these people are about. Thank you for wading through the muck and mire of today's Talk-Show mentality to see what is right before our eyes. It does seem strange to me that these folks didn't mind taking the paycheck from the Army until it came time to earn it.
