While viewing a book on world war two,
I paid special attention to the soldiers
lying on the beach face down in the water.
I wondered about them and who they were.
What were their dreams and hopes,
before facing the sand face down.
Some war images I never forget,
the ones I miss I have no regret.
I heard about an American soldier
in Iraq found floating in the river.
A few others blown apart so bad
that they could hardly be identified.
I guess they will never make the page,
to be seen by wondering eyes.
Maybe this is good,
maybe it's not.
In the news they were interviewing
soldiers preparing to leave for Iraq.
Some of them had already been,
and were going back.
I wonder if a page is waiting for them,
what will be their fate?
I like seeing them alive,
telling their stories of how and why,
before their love ones suffer and cry.
Too me it's something gained,
instead of a page unexplained.

Those going for the second, third or four time have the Nation for a soul, they saw death in the face and weren't scared, they were only scared to let someone through and hurt their country.
