Melancholy Memories
Haunting love, a worn, scratched, record
stuck replaying a line of words …
over, over, and over again …
is how our love has been lately—
melancholy memories.
Trying to find words to define
how we side-step one another …
over, over and over again …
avoiding contact. Just wearing
melancholy memories.
Slippers in different closets,
one near decadence of their soul—
over, over and over again—
clamor through days … robotic,
melancholy memories.
Uncomfortable companions,
neither anxious to live alone …
over, over and over again …
nursing histories of failure—
melancholy memories.
Is there but one love per person,
do they fear finding romance …
over, over and over again …
fearing repetition, death, disease—
melancholy memories?
The needle scratches deep discord
but, till the record is broken …
over, over and over again …
it’s best to stay with known players—
melancholy memories!
