My teacher gave us an assignment:
'Ask folks: "Are you homo sapien?"
Many won't have a clue what you said.'
So I did as asked, I plunged ahead.
In the fantasy of sweet Tennessee asked,
"Jethro, are you homo sapien?"
Jeth spat out his chawin' backy out.
"I been wondering that myself, you see,
I came 'fore their anniversary."
Enveloped in smokey mountains, Kentucky,
Uncle Ben was drinking moon-shine, he grinned.
"Ben, are you a homo sapien?"
Looking down, Ben smiled widely.
"Nope, I was home-born in Kentucky!"
We ambled on down to sweet Georgia.
"Aunt Bea, are you homo sapien?"
"Don't tell your father (my big brother)
but I only slept with your Ma one time.
Then your Dad took a liken to her."
Gave my teacher a blank paper--
won't embarrass Jethro, Ben, or Bea.
My family lacks education
and all of them have horrid tempers.
I, homo sapien, have good manners.
