I am just out off range of any but tornadoes, but to my sometimes sorrow I am quick to place myself in other shoes.
A hurricane wind called me evacuee. sent me hither and yon to find a home.
Over rivers and mountains I traveled
but the mountain breeze beckoned me on.
The mountain called to my ponder heart
come travel on the wind,
and feel the kiss of snowcapped mountains, that beg me stay
to plant a rose with storm torn hands
and never tear the bloom away.
That mountain sighs for dreamers on the seawall,
seeing lights transposed upon that haunted beach
sending waves that speak of heartaches journey
and barefoot walks
on dreams they cannot reach.
I search to find another harbor
and gain the love of life I used to know
Yet I'm afraid it may be lost forever,
covered by the waves
where strong winds blow.
I see the smiles on those beloved faces
and lose them when I waken with a start
dashed into another landlocked harbor
where sunken wharves rip pieces from my heart.
I watch the lights that gleam across the harbor
to send a kiss on brows forever stilled
silenced by a feast of wrecked depression
on beaches where no dream can be fulfilled.
But wait-- as long as there are dreams
and men to dream them
cities can arise from out the flood
to fulfil the dreams of those who dream them
and finish them with mortar, bricks and wood.
