A Night to Remember

I discovered in my sleep
that I had learned
to play the concert Jew’s harp.
I learned later that I was
not the illegitimate great-great something
of an English earl
but a long lost descendant of the prophet Jeremiah
on my Uncle David’s side (I think
the dark side); it was Jeremiah
who on one occasion was commanded
by the Lord to gird his loins.

Music lovers from as far away
as Akron came to my debut
with the National Symphony. They
cheered when I appeared in my
yellow silk gown and purple sandals
(the ones with the taffeta bow).
In front row center
my lovely friend Maria laughed
when I stood to play
a Jew’s harp adaptation of
Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor
through my musical nose.

The audience swooned.
Maria skipped to the stage
and presented me
a nosegay of shamrocks.
The music critic of the New York Times
praised my romantic tenderness and virtuosic guts.

I’m planning a world tour.

Awww, don't you just love it when you can deduce so much from a dream?

There are plenty of inuendos in this dream,
and plenty of simulations & symbolisms :)

I am also from the dark side of the family, let it be and enjoy it as the dark side has much power, so says Darth Vader...Ed

Gene - Loved the humor in your dream. You struck the right note with each line(ha, ha! or is it LOL? The image in:

my lovely friend Maria laughed
when I stood to play
a Jew’s harp adaptation of
Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor
through my musical nose.

especially struck me as funny. No wonder:

Music lovers from as far away
as Akron came to (your) debut
with the National Symphony.

Thanks for the laughter. - David

The entire fantasy is flamboyant and highly visual, a coup de theatre, ... virtuosic guts on the Jew's harp/ a nosegay of shamrocks?...The self-effacing absurd humour is so warming. Simply put, this is great.

What a lovely dream and creative expression. Ahhh, Jeremiah the weeping prophet no less. We must be related. (joking) ;) Great work.

I get the front row seat. Bravura of rapidly descending notes, A Night to Remember where the music builds up to the innovative cadenza and you dressed in haberdashery crossed between the Maharahji and Mod Squad! Jew's harp guru - the curtain draws near the final coda! Brava Gene...

Sage

If you're going to dream and write a poem about it, you might as well shoot the moon and the sun out of the sky and that's what you did here. I don't know if you intended humor but that's what I found. My dreams are mostly violent or lusty.
