for gina who dreams in
brilliant shades of blue

high above the sand and surf
she ascends a meandering path until it tapers
at the crest of a mystic mount

intoxicated in rarefied air
she stands tall in her diaphanous
dark blue taffeta robe
accented in precious burgundy
long sleeves billowing in the warm wind

she extends her shapely arms
reaching for the cyan sky
embracing the full october moon
intoxicated in rarefied air
she fastens her lips to the sea
of tranquility, her busy tongue explores
the sea of nectar, her breath
warms the ice-blue sea of cold

on tiptoes she spins the moon above her head
a blue sphere swimming in a scarlet sky
she captures the moon
chains it to her heart, leaps

from the mountain’s crown
on the delicate wings of a cerulean butterfly
lost in the clutch of naked night
her escort a shepherd’s song

guides her through a mysterious postern
into an indigo lover’s grove,
sealed in her midnight blue fantasies
there in the shadows

she is folded in a handsome stranger’s arms
eyes flaming like saphires
on his right hand a lapis lazuli ring
on his lips the whispered love of the poet

a blond blue-eyed adonis
who kisses her ever so gently and…

It's a science fiction love story in verse! What a terrific conceit; it's all blue, even with that blue movie ending.

lapis lazuli, had almost completely lapsed from my lexicon -- it has been a long time since I have seen or used it -- though it is still quite a gem -- a very blue piece of literature Gene -- not the blue of depression, the blue of light airy wonderful things -- thanks -- peace to you my friend -- JMW

What a lot we have in common, Gene. Sapphires and lapis? Cool blues.
I really enjoyed this poem, its sounds, colors. "...she spins the moon above her head" is just brilliant and surprising, uplifting, as the poem moves forward, only to end in a reverie.

Many thanks,

Kathy Kopp

All this blue and then, all of a sudden, a scarlet sky!
It's like taking a walk in a land of fantasy.

Gene,
...and the rest is left to the imagination. I love the structure of the thoughts and the technique, the descent from top to bottom paralleled by the changing shades and variations of colours (a la Hopkins descent from cloud to diamond in That Nature is a Heraclitean Fire) ...."guides her through a mysterious postern into an indigo lover's grove" is outstandingly rich and evocative. This is splendid.

...and the imagination takes off. I see this goddess coming down from Mt. Olympus seducing a simple human that, an Adonis, she couldn't resist. Will those two twined in the salty surf of passion give birth to the next half-god like those the Greeks told tails about--like one that never cuts his hair without losing power. We can only wait.

Gene, I am mesmerized, captivated, spellbound...
It seems you have answered in your divine imagery my "IntraBeing" poem. For, it seems that you have painted a mystical, otherworldly, boundless reunion more gloriously than I could have dreamed. This is purely exquisite and I am deeply honored. Tonight I will be dreaming in blue. In admiration and friendship, Gina
