Gifts Of Eden Once Abounded
Amber waves of grain, once caressed by gentle breezes,
Stalks of sugar cane, used for sweetening, when it pleases,
Legions upon legions of swaying golden maize,
All of these were nurtured by ---the Sun's loving rays.
Verdant forests, where the elk and the deer did roam,
Glistening streams and rivers, also bays and seas that foamed,
A kaleidoscope of flowers, kissed by honey-bees,
All of these were for us --- especially the Trees.
Majestic mountains, soared to touch the heavens above,
Lush, fertile valleys, sown with tenderness and love,
Abundant birds of every color, that sang melodious tunes,
All of these were ennobled by - Man's scribbled runes.
Wondrous plants that fed, and clothed, sheltered, and healed,
Precious metals, and minerals, and stones that appealed,
Innumerable flora and fauna, so beauteous to behold,
These Gifts of Eden Once Abounded ---
Alas, God has broken the mold!

Alas, God has broken the mold!
You offer some sobering substance for reflection, Tom. Thank you. Be well, my friend. Love and peace,
Regis
Beautiful poem, Tom
