Winter Freeze

 

The Juncos, sparrows, chickadees;

Don’t seem to mind this winter freeze.

I filled the feeders days ago

Before there was the threat of snow.

 

A tufted tit mouse stopping by,

I love to watch them land and fly,

And all the tracks they leave behind

Are like a painting they have signed.

 

I have to say, this winter scene

For birds, at least, is so serene-

But sorry- I can hear the plow.

I have to go and shovel now.

Wonderfully descriptive and how well I know the feeling. Birds of all kinds are so amazing to observe and hwo well you bring out the beauty in winter...

I find your verses very effective in painting this portrait of winter. We've had not winter here this year and I do miss the snow, having been raised in northern Alberta where winter lasts at least six months of the year. Thank you, John. Love and peace,
