A tribute to a special lady. I live in Africa and love this wild untamed land. It is said that once Africa is in your blood it will never leave you. This must hold true for Mirella. If you have not yet seen the photographic journal 'African Visions' get it. You will not regret it.
Mirella Ricciardi through your camera lens I discovered Africa again The mystique, the raw splendour of this wild but beautiful land Before 'African Visions' I could not fathom nor was able to make sense of an environment so harsh and a culture so inhumane A land that has abundance yet lets its children starve. Women mutilated their lovely bodies destroyed. Men, no longer human nor animal (no animal could be so beastly) Animals in danger of extinction, hunted without consideration to satisfy an insatiable greed Women and children are not the only ones being raped. The land is fast being plundered and destroyed, Oh God what a tragedy. but through your photographic images the splendour lives on and ever will…
A nice tribute to a land that may be vanishing as we breathe. Will we wake up one day and discover that only a few postage stamp sized pieces of wilderness survive in the world and man can't visit without destruction.
"...once Africa is in your blood it will never leave you" is so very true. I know that I am forever changed for having sojourned in this vast land. You have very well outlined some of the tragedies of Africa. Good write. R
throught this poem you have given us a glimpse of the sad state of the african terrane ... so much butchery of the animal and human landscape leaves a deep hole in the heart of the jungle ...

A most beautiful tribute, both to your friend Mirella, and to Africa.
I hope one day soon to come and visit. Even though I am an 'artist'
and a photographer...pictures don't quite do justice to the actual
beauty of the land...or certain people.

This is a wonderful tribute to a photographic great. Nice writing, Chanti. It is sad that all the wild places left on the planet are being ravaged. It should be up to governments to protect the lands and the animals (and humans) who inhabit them. So very often this is just not the case.

Did you discover south africa lost to England just now. hoe hum..
America are distroying the north pole so fast that in ten years the Polar Bear will be extinct too. Do they care. Nope, cos it would mean pain to their god..The not so mighty dollar..
As W. E. B. Du Bois observed, Africa has ever blessed the world with some ancient miracle or some newfound marvel. You have assigned yourself a challenging literary mission, albeit one that many others before you have also undertaken, and I hope that through this poem as well as through your other writings, your voice is heard loud and clear. Your soul is in good company and your pen shall produce wonders. Peace.
