Never been lost there, but can rightly imagine it could be a terror...

Poem Artwork

Oh To be Spring & Lost in the NYC Subway System…

Subways, helpful to those in the know,

Downright scary to those who don’t but still have to go,

Seeing the graffiti, the totally odd ones who ride along,

Won’t take too long to realize you have left sanity behind, so long…

Ride in the front car with the engineer,

You can tell he isn’t lost, but has his own fear,

Locked in a bullet-proof cubicle so near,

To all the craziness that happens with a cheer…

No never have I been lost in New York,

This is just fiction dropped to me by the stork,

Hey, it rhymed what can I say,

Or should I have used the planet ork?

When you read this and you surely will,

Make sure you recall this writer has within him a lot of dill,

Pickles or peppers I know not now, or ever still,

Just keep in mind I know not what I write,

For that is the reason I herein use the rhyme, isn’t it just so right?

AM I the only New Yorker here who has actually
used and carried one of these? LOL
You haven't really "ridden" one of these - until
someone has actually pulled the emergency brake in your car
;) Now there is something to write about..
Oh and by the way- I've been riding the sub when the
Token (remember those?) was 35c
;)Donna

I have to agree with Ed Kostro on this, for the subways contain a sub culture if you will. They have a life of their own, they are an entity in themselves. Great material here for all kind of writes, just read some of O'Henry's work for examples.

Ed, you are missing a golden opportunity here. Many ancient secrets, and bizarre wonders of nature, are hidden in those deep dark subway tunnels.
