A Favor to ask of Those of You Living in the Artic Regions...

Only need some advice from those of you living in the Artic Regions, which is pretty much the whole northern US & Canada this winter season...

Brrrr, you're right, its cold outside of late,
Maybe, if you live further north than I,
You might suggest a way of keeping warmer,
My feet for the most part...

I know how to layer,
Dressing in flannel lined jeans with sweat pants on top for legs,
T-shirt, sweat shirt & thinsulate jacket on my upper torso, not the warmest but will do for a short walk.

But my feet, far from warm in socks and sneakers,
Not made for the snow,
Quite well do I know,
But what else is there to do?
I have a pair of boots, non-insulated,
And cannot afford better,
So my feet seem to suffer,
While the rest of me,
Stays warm as melted butter.

I have tried thicker socks,
They help for the short term,
But when they get damp,
That is when I am my most stern,
Any suggestions would be of help,
You have my & my feets thanks...

Knowing all too well,
That I will hear from those like ED K, Andy T, or
Ted S.,
Too stay inside, that idea is the best...

Ed, do all the things mentioned. Then get a hot water bottle and put your feet on it, keep your socks on, and wait until your feet warm up. It works for me.

Tennies in the snow, Ed? The real secret is to cover up your tootsies BUT... not so they sweat! If they sweat, they freeze... avoid moisture, which is why rubber is OUT! I'm afraid, though it's a budget issue, the best bet is leather. (No, I don't have them either). sigh.. Cotton socks, not wool will stay dry better. And now for the bad news: Unless you walk on your hands, it's almost unavoidable, having cold feet. I'm sorry... but, as one of your "arctic" dwellers, I loved your writing here.. stock the pantries, call in sick and snuggle up to your sweetie... that's my best advice! (grin) katy xox.

Double up on your socks......but best bet is , if you know anyone that knits, ask them to knit you up a warm pair of socks. Also check out Dollar type stores for warming packages. Small packages of heat that you can place in your mitts and boots. Only problem is they are only good for a few hours then you have to buy some more.

Only other thing I can think of is, buying boots from Alberta stores LOL. I have a pair of eskimo boots that keep my toes nice and toasty. The main trick is to keep the feet dry. A good pair of winter boots will have strings at the top to pull the boot in close to the skin so the snow does not get in.

Or finally.........Move south

Ed, I suggest you stay inside - til Spring!!

But seriously, if you are serious, I find cheap rubber high top boots with some felt lining inside do quite nicely for me. I think the best pair I ever had, I bought at someplace like K-Mart for about 10 bucks.
