From plants grown way up in the long cold north
Southerners learn of a noxious nutritious scrub
coming out of the good old buckwheat family
its leaves poisonous but the stalks are food
used to make into a dubious dessert pie
needing loads of sugared flavorings
and rugged brave souls to eat it
hell-bent to live dangerously
fooling old mother nature
consuming weeds that
we who love eating
un-sweet turnip
greens will
never eat

Ya'll indeed....good old Rhubarb pie is a favorite of mine too. I always put cool whip on it to sweeten it a little more. Delicious poem William.

oooohhh!! I love rhubard and of course rhubarb pie. I haven't had stewed rhubarb for breakfast since I was a child, perhaps I should look for some at the grocery. Nice write, William, thanks for reminding me of that delicious stalk.

Ooooooh...I love rhubarb, too. My mother made the yummiest rhubarb pies! I miss them: she's been gone 17 years, and I'm afraid I'm not the cook she was. :( Clever format, love this one. Delicious!
