The heat and dry of
Summer weather
brings you back
like that insufferable
Sunday afternoon when
the heat almost won
because poverty
didn't provide
a cooling fan in
our world of gotta' eat
All windows open
but no breeze since
that storm in April
Eating was unappetizing
reading impossible
sweat wets every page
We give in to create
our own heat wave
intensely incendiary
a hellava' lot more fun
than being stoic potatoes
baking in a merciless sun
Great imagery reminds me of the house that I grew up in...tin roof, little if any insulation, no air conditioning that was a luxery few had, and only a screen over the open window and a small rotating fan that seemed to only blow hot air! Nights were miserable, the days we sought shade outside or would wade in the creek, and sometimes just sit there and allow the water to flow over our legs, fast food was a luxery that only happened very seldom, so it was cooked meals and no in the heat of the summer they just didn't taste as good as winter days...thank you my friend for taking me back to some uncomfortable, yet wonderful memories. Makes one stop and appreciate central heat/air and microwaves....a wonderful write filled with outstanding imagery. Enjoyed!
