Trading to make a buck gets a laugh. Sometimes!

The Hand Tractor

A feller I knew, had a hand plow or two, one, he said he was gonna let go
It was a two wheely thing, and I thought it might bring, me in a hundred or so,

So I said look-a here, I’ve got a full case of beer ,and today I might do you a trade,
Well he eye’d my sack, but then he stepped back, didn’t look like a swap could be made ,

But I saw then, he looked back again, this time he was lickin his lip,
It was easy to see, that at that moment he, was thinking of more than a sip,

I said here have one, it’s hot in the sun ,and besides there’s twenty more in there,
I weren’t sure what he said , but in shaking his head, guess he figured the tradin was fair ,

Well, we bent a new can ,and I thought that man, my tradin was pretty well done,
I asked him friend , would it be Ok then, if I gave this ol'tractor a run,

The day it was hot, and I reckon I got, ready to make me a deal,
But as you know ,that ol’tractor was slow, and he wanted to spade up that field,

Then I allowed, that I had plowed, that whole field that he was aspadin,
But it struck me in fear, we’d drank all my beer and now I had nothin for tradin,

I was on a beer high, so I told him that I, better wait until better I’d feel,
He said , “Yeah it’s too late, tomorrow would be great, then the owner might make you a deal!”,

God what had I done! all day in the sun, while this Farming hand drank up my beer,
It’s too late to be dumb, that’s already done, and now I best get outta here,

Well in the end ,I’m not sure he’s a friend, but a wiser old farming hand,
Holding up a beer, I think he was sincere ,with a “come back whenever you can!”

Loved it. But friends don't let friends drink and plow. Can you plow a straight line?

It's amazing what can get done when beer's doing the talking! You sure not to make me laugh!

And, you got me wondering what a hand tractor is. All the tractors I know have power so that they can pull, plow or whatever is needed. By mere definition, a hand tractor would be powered by a human. It would have to be very well-designed to do any good without breaking its operator's back. I guess I'll have to go look it up.
