Dynamite Bob and Fabulous Fay owned the Old Good Luck Café”
The place was for eating , but really took a beating when Miners came in for a meal,
Twas said that good fare when they had some was rare and prices were never a steal ,
One morning at eight in came ol’Jake from the upriver Mary Hope mine,
Looking ragged and sore from a bad night before, drinking, that Black berry wine,
An omelet He ordered cooked dry and unwatered, he wanted it, as big as his plate,
Fay said to Bob Hon, Eggs we’ve only got one , them chickens, ain’t layin of late,
Bob said, make it with cheese. and fry it to please, the difference he probably won’t see
Fay says all we’ve got. is that stuff stinks a lot, We couldn’t give away free.
Bob said don’t you sweat it, He’ll never get it, he probably cain’t smell anyway,
Still drunk on his feet Limburger’er smell sweet, he’ll put that ol’omelet away,
Jakes face was a fright when he took his first bite and said Madam, I hate it to say,
Are these eggs new? they’ve got a strange phew, but maybe they came that away,
Insulted Bob stood, had to make it look good, said they were just laid yesterday,
And then he said look, never question the cook Eggs won’t go bad in a day
Jake didn’t want to offend. you got a rooster my friend?,It might be the reason they smell,
Ol’Bob said no never, no rooster not ever , we only raise them to sell,
Ol’Jake shook his head , looked up and said; No Rooster?, that sure beats the dickens
I suggest you get one and quickly ol’son, cause a Skunk’s makin love to your chickens!
Ain't that the dickens! You sure know how to write them in a way that brings out the way things really were back when commodities like eggs and cheese may not have been as available as they are now. But I do recall restaurants where they didn't have what was on the menu and where the proprietors would stretch the truth a bit when they couldn't live up to their claims.
A humorous look at the world and life through my eyes.
