Thought you might enjoy a little duck hunting

Bird Dog,
Jake was a duck hunter, but he wasn’t gittin any,
All the other hunters were bringing in plenty,

He was a good shot; always knocked ‘em down
But not being a swimmer, to get’em , he’d drown,

Hey get a dog, it’s plain to see,
Every other hunter has two or three,

Jake was a piker; bird dogs cost a tad,
Indy Jim had one , the best to be had,

Said yeah you can have him for six hundred or so,
You can try him a week fore, you give me the dough.

Jake took the dog to his favorite duck spot
and sure enough , hit two, but in the river they’d drop.

Hey Ace dog go fetch’em, if that there’s your name,
Ace junped in the river, but then the shock came ,
He walked on the water to retrieve the game!

Jake wasn’t drunk but thought that he was, ,
A dog walkin on water, was what the Booze does,

But sure as shooting two birds he did get ,
And ol’Ace’s feet were not even wet,

Ol’Jake shook all over , A Bird dog of this kind,
The Boys will all think that I‘m losin my mind,

I can’t tell a soul, and can’t tell where I’ve been,
I’ll try huntin tomorrow, see if it happens again,

Sure enough for three days and Jake couldn’t believe,
Ol’Ace did his walkin and six birds he retrieved .

A preacher in camp ,Jake knew quite well,
He asked to go huntin with him for a spell,

The Preacher was silent and said not a word,
When Ace walked the water to get every bird.

Explaining his problem with Indian Jim,
Do I take back the dog or do I pay him?

I’m desperate now , my week’s at an end ,
and what do I do about ol’Ace my good friend,

You’ve got Bible learning, and maybe can tell,
If this walkin on water is some kind of a spell,

The Preacher man studied and had this to say,
“A good well trained birddog will sure make your day,

But there’s no Biblical connection, that I see with Him ,
I’d say take him back, I don’ t think, he can swim!”

That last line was really wacko! ;-)

And all along I thought that maybe Jake was just seein' a mirage and Jake was just walking out in a cornfield that had been cut down. There goes my imagination at work again…
