Better days gotta be ahead

The Bad Homecoming

The wedding had been wonderful , but the husband was jealous of his wife,
She couldn’t dance or even speak to others, her’s was a terrible life,

Returning home from work early, he found their apartment dead bolt locked,
Instantly he became a raging mad man, his wife was scared and shocked,

There was no doubt, his wife was cheating, he hammered on the door;
Wait a minute , just a minute , his wife did implore,

Finally pulling back the deadbolt , she let her husband in,
He was like a maniac searching everywhere, behind the couch and den,

Suddenly from his picture window he saw a man ; he had to be the lover,
There was no way to catch him , he would run for cover,

The man dropped from the fire escape and when he turned to go
Quickly grabbing his refrigerator, he pushed it thru the window to drop on him below,

The husband suffered a killing heart attack , his effort was just too much,
He came to standing in a line surrounded by clouds and such,

A white robed man was asking a young man how he died, Sir what killed thee?
The young man replied a refrigerator came from somewhere high and fell upon me,

I was rushing to get to an injured patient ;the fire escape was a short way to my car,
You see I am a doctor and a call came in where walking was too far,

ST, Peter said well son step in there’s two more men behind you,
Oh God said the distraught husband, I don’t know what to do,

I let my terrible jealousy kill a man just going about his work
St Peter can you ever forgive me, I’m such a terrible jerk.

ST Peter said stand over here , you’ve committed the ultimate sin,
I’ve one more man to talk to ; I’m not sure that you’ll get in,

And you young man , what killed thee? , I’ll deal with him later,
The man said , I don’t know sir , I was hiding in a refrigerator!

That stinker, Michael, sure is a spoiler. But I think it's okay to paraphrase a joke in a poem. Still, it would've been nice had you made a disclaimer in your intro--always safer.

That said, the last line surely was a final twist for your poem and the punchline of the joke.

Two things are quite true. Jealous husbands/wives can be a real pain and people will cheat, pushed into it by jealousy or not.

Nicely done, but I had already heard this joke years ago.
