Sometimes it does make you wonder if an old joke can be made Poetically correct.

GI insurance

He sure didn’t look like an insurance salesman, but you can’t knock results,
The captain considered his new assignee to be a great insult,

Upon induction of new recruits, you push for buying a life insurance plan,
So it’s the job of his group to make a sale to every man,

There’s the short economy plan that covers burial at the lowest rate,
Then there’s the long two hundred K a package with compensate,

Well something was definitely out of place and wrong,
His new private Ding dong was selling everyone the expensive long,

It was a really great mystery, How could it possibly be ,
He joined in with a group of new recruits to see,

He set in to catch Private Ding Dong’s, selling pitch,
There had to be something crooked , maybe he did a switch,

His pitch as it turned out was really , a thing of beauty,
He just pointed out where a feller might want, to serve his tour of duty,

This random selection for Combat is where the bureaucrat’s earn their keep,
There has never been a true r statement than saying life is cheap,

“Men the short returns your family six thousand at the government’s own expense,
The long returns two hundred K, so what just makes good sense,

The government wants to take the smallest hit, you can bet your sweet Pa-tootie,
So guess who gets the opening call for high risk combat duty?

I remember needing to choose an insurance plan from a few the company had to offer. That was during the early 80's. Here it comes again!

Love ya!

I had forgotten this one so the punch line was a surprise. You did a nice job of making a poem out of it.

I guess that's why insurance policies always include the disclaimer… "Except for acts of God and war," which covers just about everything except a straight and narrow life.

This poem isn't funny, but the irony is golden.
