Lady’s Gold Mine
How come you reckon, this gold mine is named what it is ?
Well I’m gonna lay it on you, the reason that it tis,
He was gonna call it Broken Tongue cause that’s what got him stopped ,
The wagon tongue was broke and draggin, and right here’s where she popped,
The wife took awful offence to that name, considered it misspoken,
I can understand just why, her tongue is anything but broken,
A woman of ten thousand words, or maybe more no doubt,
I think she was afraid of dying before her mouth wore out,
Her wedding was a nightmare, that poor preacher was abused ,
Couldn’t get a word in sideways , sign language , he finally used,
The wedding was a big affair, though her dowry just a pittance,
Her father happily wore his arm out just waving her good riddance,
You think a gold mine’s name should be something that applies,
Oh No! not when the little woman just thinks otherwise,
Said I’m a lady of few words; another name you better try,
Well she’s wrong on both occasions, that’s where I’ll leave it lie
She said, Cain’t you think of something with a Lady’s name ,
Seems like all you miners ever think of is the awful same,
Big luck , Bad Joe or John or Pete’s ol’Lucky Strike ,
Something dumb as dirt or what no one’ll like,
No sense at all. Ain’t got no learnin, you’re just all the same,
When it comes to naming something I think your brain is lame,
Well the place was full of trees so he tried The Shady Lady Pit,
She thought that was better but said it just don’t fit ,
Next every gold mine needs an outhouse nearby on the Claim,
This is where he painted up the latest gold mine’s name ,
There it was in big black letters “ Best of Luck or Bust”
The lady was apalled, they said she never cussed,
Might a fooled a preacher, but that weren’t no holy shout ,
Sounded like a Drill Instructer, really brought her Navy out,
She held out for a lady’s mine and squawked at every name ,
So her husband finally gave it up, said he’d play her silly game,
Finally gave her all the credit on her birthday so I’m told
On the back of that ol’outhouse , he painted Charlene’s Glory Hole,
Haven’t seen him lately; I wondered about that a bit
Seemed like the name he chose was not a real big hit.\,
Now high upon that gold mine in the upper A frame rigging,
Is the name that you will all see now, “ The Dead Man’s Diggins”

is not a happy life
the marriage full of strife
She ended with a Knife... or a gun ... or poison... or...
and ready to be shoved. Keep on keepin' on.
