New Car
I couldn’t believe it, the damn car died,
That salesman was crooked I know he lied,
You know I’ve worked cars most every kind,
But this SOB’s got me outta my mind,
Not One single light comes ON- on the dash,
This fancy new car is a real piece of trash,
Salesman said, It was good, for ten years or more’
Hell, the thing quit runnin ten miles from the store,
That salesman was great with the demo ride’
We drove for hours the whole country side,
Should have known better, than to trust that guy,
Last damn time I’ll go there to buy,
These new car dealers, oh the song they sing,
Just want your money they’ll, tell you anything,
Bring along your old junker , we ‘ll take it in trade,
But we’ll need your history of all the money you’ve made,
All, your finances, wanna know every thing’
Just call your Bank, they’ll tell you what to bring,
I gave’em more history that I ever did before,
Answered their questions till my throat was sore,
Then came the paperwork. Good Lordy what a grief ,
Boy what a joke when he said it was brief,
Think I signed everything there, on the line except,
My wife’s Birth certificate and the national debt,
Well I called triple A , been with’em for awhile,
Said , they’d get a tow truck, you’re only out a mile ,
Got me hooked up, said I'll take you down to Nick’s,
You can get a room there at Motel six,
,
I said wait a minute, where’s the service that I had,?
Can’t you take me to the Dealer, or is the car that bad?
Gotta stay over night, for this new piece of crap?
Musta saw me comin, I’m a real dumb Sap,
Mister , “ Nick can do a quickie, but you won’t get far,
It takes a full eight hours to charge your electric car!”
Double Duh !!

Incidentally, re your remark (cf. Messages) on letting your progeny cart your work to traditional publishers, one word of caution is indispensable: in the old days, Beckett had to keep sending his mss old style - prior to the fifties - one after the other, for traditional publishers don't much like simultaneous submissions.
