I just cain't remember what it was that I was supposed to remember.

Memory Salad,

Well I’ve done a lotta dumb things in my crazy life,
I got that phrase memorized, it’s a favorite of my wife,

As you age a little, your memory takes a hit,
And I reckon I ain’t no different, I’ve slipped a little bit,

We went out to dinner,, I think that she was buying,
Boy I sure messed that up without even trying,

Wished her Happy Birthday, everything was looking fine,
But it wasn’t her Happy Birthday , Guess what, it was mine,

Normally she’s pretty good her memory cain’t be beat,
She just forgets that I cain’t remember what I’m not to eat,

Then there was something, I forgot what every body does,
I’ll just ask my wife, she’ll remember what it was,

Dear do you remember, what you said to do,
She said , shoulda wrote it down like I told you to,

Dear I’m a writer, was it on your grocery list,
My mind is always occupied, there’s stuff, I mighta missed,

Am I an esteemed author, a highly favored one?
She said she favored lobsters highly steamed until they’re done,

Respect ain’t her strongest suit as you can plainly see,
What’s that with the lobsters, thought, this was about me,

I cain’t recall what she said was always being left undone,
Seems to me it was something, a kinda important one,

She said there were so many things ;my memory’s kinda dim,
I’m just hoping here in church , my fly ain’t one of them!

Close call!

Man! That sure was memorable! Damn, forgot what it was about. Was it worth remembering?

No doubt, no doubt.

Well knit together, Tom, but somehow the unexpected - even the last couplet - seems a bit redundant to me. Don't worry, the gang will be around in a minute to buck you up. Best to the wife. Hope you noted this down. TW
