Parts of this have An Owen, Sassoon feel, the feel of being in the trenchs' but also Kipling with his personal tragedy.
Yet it is I who make you
determined to return,
I who make you strong – <-------The backbone of many a man has been his little lady with this kind of metal keeping him strong and so it will continue..
This is an outstanding write because it was truly
inspired ! The reasons we go to war are usually hard to define, but you managed to do so perfectly! It shows that even when we hate it and know the cost of how horrific it is ,we still go. An impeccable poem Kate, my new favorite of yours and a gift to keep! Thanks for sharing! Eileen^

An amazing work.
Graphic and gripping utterances from the heart of woman. She, who is caught up in her husband's duty and willingness to serve is a time warp of unreality.Your words speak to all hearts - even those who seem to believe that Peace is a thing to be had without sacrafice and danger. To say that it as always been thus, is not living in the world of today's headlines.As an old airman in US Air forces, I did my bit, but we had real villaians in those days; Hitler and that Italian runt. I frget what side Stalin was on, and at times, so did he. Who are our enemies today? Terrorists, and those who don't believe that they are REAL with purposeful agendas of destruction and winning!

Thank you on behalf of my mother who was a warbride in WW II and all the mothers and wifes out there who were war brides. I'm not supposed to be up but I couldn't help myself. Now back to bed for me.Hugs.

Who knows where the muse roams when we sleep. This write is truly inspired. You speak of weakness but it is about the strength to carry on despite of it. It is an inner strength few find, and eve fewer can penn it like you.
It is for freedom and peace that we go to war; it may not be right, but someone has to fight for what we are and what we believe in! There are people bent on destroying us, and we must do ALL we can to protect our nation and our people. This is why we are at war! Powerful, powerful write; very well expressed! BRAVA!

It is for peace that we battle, how strange that concept seems to be, yet the passion we all have for peace and freedom would be enough to wage battle to defend. "Fighting for peace" initially this seems like an oxymoron, yet, as you have so perfectly stated in your poem, it is from our desire for peace that we find the strength to battle to defend it. Beautiful poem, Kate! As I am sure you knew I would, before you even posted this, "I love it" as I am sure Lisa, as well as many others will also. You echo my heart in this exceptional poem!
Has a defining redemptive feel about this awesome composition Kate !
Laced with a spirited St Paul like quality, of even though I am weak in body, I am made of superior inner mettle, even though I am cursed with a thorn in my side by God, I will soldier on in Christ !
