Winter’s grip begins to slip as sun begins to warm
the ground below where freezing cold preserved earth in its charm
giving rest to roots and limbs, frosting barks on trees,
quietly whispering to sleep both ants and honey bees.
Gently flowing now to warmth, calling birds to fly
in hunt of berries, seeds on stems and feeders full and dry.
Singing, tweeting as they race to find their daily needs,
returning when relief is found for their nest to keep.
Becoming now so well aware of the warming air,
mending nests for soon their young will hatch for nests to share.
As Winter softly fades to Spring waking squirrels and rabbits
and deer and ‘coons began to creep away from habitats.
In search of needs so they can too keep right their way through life,
as Spring returns and Summer lurks along their own timelines,
quite aware of rainy days, preparing well to greet
returning crickets, ants and bees, bullfrogs and small peeps.
Rejoicing every day to day as their young take hold
of their ways through mild bright days that springtime always grows.
Until Summer finds the door from Spring swung wide and open,
where every flower, tree and shrub are lush with green and growing
into their own, adorning limbs with flower, seed and berry,
making right their onward plight to keep their summer merry.
Where humid days and sun’s bright rays tastes of fruits so sweet
and Summer butterflies return across the lawn to sweep.
Dressed in yellows, dressed in whites, dressed to catch an eye,
as they flutter powder wings bringing such delight,
reminding all as Autumn calls the Summer to an end,
how delicate the day now past will usher in its friends,
into the vibrant colored world held in Autumn’s hands
where once again we take to feasts in all our Winter plans.
