Can an old lady be a spider?

I was like the little spider...
the rain came down and washed me out
but it watered all my pots, a Godly help,
but I wheeled into the house and had a pout

Never have such heavy rains
come so soon in the year around here
A blessing on one hand I admit,
yet brought to me a disappointed tear

Now I watch so carefully
and prepare before I go out
Hooded coat, speed dial on the chair
Not wanting to be washed down the spout
