Feeling a little blue, between Covid, aches and pains, and the rain...

Poem Artwork

 Melancholy Day

By: Felix Perry

Woke to a cloudy sky painting my window gray

Instead of the usual bird song, just the beat of rain

Heard moaning of a train whistle from across town

Sat up and groaning as my old body gave me pain

Recalled a song from long ago, really it was long ago

It was one my Mom used to sing along with maybe

Can’t remember all sad lyrics or even the faint melody

I do recall that the title was called Melancholy Baby

Sip my steeped tea, nibble on a piece of burnt toast

Stare out the window hoping to see a hint of sunlight

Mind and soul hurt so deep that I just want to hide away

Far from the gray of my melancholy, deep-felt insight…

While the poem speaks of melancholy, it is so clear in your well-chosen words, that it is the soul's need to dwell in that place of memory and pain. Something necessary and soulful is taking place here. Wonderful! Sincerely, Corrine Ardoin

There's a lovesick fool in every bar who wants to hear:

Come to me my melancholy baby
Cuddle up and don't be blue
All your fears are foolish fancy, maybe
You know dear that I'm in love with you.

Every cloud must have a silver lining...etc.

Sounds like your feeling a bit melancholic today, I hope you
recalled your mothers arms and her sunlit laughter too, Much love :)

Maybe I inspired you to write some blues with my two poems Angry Clouds and Sometimes. But you have expressed the mood very well in your own way. Takes me back to the 50s when we lived close enough to the tracks to hear that mournful sound of the trains coming and going.

Even though this was a sad and melancholy poem...I
really appreciated it...I think because it was so well written,
but also because it illustrated a familiarity of days such as
you describe that in some form we have all experienced..
There was also such artistry in your expression which
I found very pleasing...
I hope the Sun is shining for you today Fee..
Your pains have gone, your toast isn’t burnt...
and happier thoughts abound...!

Best wishes,
Diana...

I don't just envision this scene, I'm part of it. I guess because I have know just such feelings.

This was sad, Fee! I know sometimes the gloomy weather and the rain would dictate our mood. I hope when the rain stops and the sun comes out from its hiding you will feel much better. A well-expressed poem!
