O yonder Moon, you weepyour crystalline tears
into the velvet mist that is night,
hiding behind gauzy veils of sadness,
shielding your vulnerability,
as the universe observes your nakedness.
The faces you show lend themselves
more to your mystery than to my
determined enlightenment.
You, sister of the sun, rule your domain
in silence and cool serenity,
yet commanding oceans to do your will.
A shyness that transcends
your power endears you to my imagination,
intriguing me with your contradictions.
You do not speak to me loudly
so I might hear you....
Instead you speak to me softly
so I might listen.
And as you fade into the dawn
of brilliant brushstrokes,
you bid an almost silent farewell, but
for the whispering of a gentle
promise to return
in dewy shades of companionship,
shimmering in starlight,
bathed in those crystalline tears
of our shared honesty.
when i read 'moon' poetry - forgive
the casual phrasing - i always think of Plath
and her strange and difficult relationship
with the 'wild and bald' but there's nothing
of Plath's approach here, here is tenderness,
romance and glowing spirituality
You betcha, Myrna, the moon is the prize. A forever changing globe of vivid colors and crescent silhouettes. It is the moon, the pregnant appearing, heavy with its burden to control the seas and mens' thoughts that we write our poetry about, not the brilliant glare of the burning, glaring sun. The moon is for every lover who has sat beneath it and worked his charms into the night. The moon. Harvest Moon the glory of its existence . . . I love the moon with all its mysteriousness, although we have trod upon it. A beautiful poem about that all-encompassing mystification and secrets.
