Siberian Tiger

Poem Artwork

Another year has come and gone,
the endangered list grows ever long.

In Africa, there is never enough food,
to feed the hungry, milling throng.

Tribal customs still live strong,
and "wild meat" comes to town.

In Asia, the land grows ever bare,
farmed by humans struggling there.

No habitat left for fish, fur or fowl,
a plundered nest so stripped and foul.

In South America, the jaguars' growl.
Is as lonely as the coyotes' howl.

The Arctic ice is so thin and bare,
the polar bear struggles just to live.

It does not matter much to bears,
how much we donate or give.

The rich and reckless love their sushi,
while wild blue fin tuna struggle to survive.

Shark fin soup is a Chinese staple,
but how many sharks still remain alive?

Whale meat can feed a nation,
but when all whales are dead and gone.

Will the ocean ecosystem,
continue to thrive and carry on?

These questions are strong and deep,
questions without answers we must keep.

In our minds as we move on.
Where have all the wild ones gone?

Those are some great questions I sadly wonder about everyday.

Steady human population growth does not bode well for animals or us. They'll go first but we'll soon follow. Great photo. Patrick

In great concise, musical and rhyming wit you have covered almost all the bases of creatures I and many have been concerned about, with "man" as their number one apex predator, directly or indirectly. You did miss one that is so prevalent here in the lower 48 and Alaska; the American Gray Wolf. Terrorized by foreign hunters and rancher lobby groups and Tea-Party nuts who perceive a threat everywhere where there is none, or perhaps they just are power-hungry to kill (not even for food)...a sad comment on our times. Great poetry from you.
best, Mike

It's so very sadly true that we are losing more and more within our environment every day! Thoughts of the future we are leaving for our children, grandchildren are devastating!

These Creatures are beautiful in the wild
where they should be left alone and away from the growing population
where they will become part of their food chain........
Peace be with you

You paint a stark but very real picture of the state of affairs on this planet, Ron. Thank you for sharing this most crucial message. Love and peace to you,

Regis

A valid question. We have dismissed them, will we follow them soon? So thought provoking.

Your poignant couplets make me think of the song, "Where Have All The Flowers Gone?" and "Blowin In The Wind", Ron. How we wish we could just pluck answers from the air, along with all the toxic waste, and turn back the clock or, conversely, to stop it before all time runs out for sea-change in our modern primitive mindset. We humans are the "wild ones": rampant and out of control and order: The Siberian Empire does indeed, need to strike back! Animals are certainly sadly going at the rate of two-by-two these days... Notwithstanding, Happy New Year in as far as it possibly can be! :)) xx

While human beings can produce all kinds of food without using animal meat, we still hunt them down and kill them for sport...when they are all gone, will humans start to hunt humans for sport...? e

the questions always as to whether or not they are not needed any more I think. Such a shame to lose these beautiful beast of old yet they do not serve purpose to the new age it would seem. Good write. have a great new year

Your poem illumines so much for the heart and head to ponder, Ron. It is a sad state of affairs for nature indeed.

Compassion, sensibility and awareness stroked your pen in this poem Ron. Next we will be inquiring, where are all of the tame ones going! The wild ones leaving us are testament to human kinds greed and egocentric perspective. I bid you love and peace my dear friend. Jon Michael
