We have gone past "normal" weather, recording 100 year and even 1000 year events. Extinction is happening at 1000 times greater than normal and we are approaching the Sixth Planetary Extinction. We can no longer justify population growth on business/biblical terms.

Fire and Rain

It's becoming an all too familiar refrain.

Long periods of drought followed by,

sudden bursts of flooding rain.

Fire in the parched tree mountains,

fire in the dry grassy plain,

flood in the low lands,

brutal storms lash the main.

The climate is changing,

right before our eyes,

scientists are discovering,

new records in the skies.

It's an atmospheric change,

that human senses can't detect.

That heats up the air slowly,

stable climate to gradually wreck.

Millions of life forms,

live in very narrow climate niches.

Destroying their diverse lifestyles,

are short-term profit-seeking bitches.

Greedy consumers who always seek,

more every year for less, they think.

fueling an economy of human want,

out of mind and damn the heat sink.

An economy based on cheap stuff,

is making us weak and sick.

We have to change our ways,

all our bad habits to kick.

So, wake up convenient world,

and address the real problem.

"Right to life" for all creatures,

not just rote verbal pablum.

Time is running out,

on a planetary scale.

Life as we know it,

is beginning to pale.

Wise up, business world!

Get with the program.

Let science, not politics, solve,

the dilemma of our doldrum.

Another cry into the wilderness of desolate minds and hearts. If only more would read words like this and truly wake up to the exactness of their behavior. Spot on, Ron.

Great to see that not everyone is in denial. I so agree with you, Ron. Three years ago, I thought I heard a cricket one night here on the mountain. Nah, I thought, that cannot be. Last year, choruses of crickets erupted in "song" one evening in August. They are back this year. Apparently, like the black widow spiders now making their way in Ontario and Québec, it's warm enough for them. A most apt and timely write, Ron. Love, peace, and hoping it is not too late,

When you wake up one morning and can't find the honey for your coffee because all the bee's are extinct and the butterfly no longer spreads their wings and the fire rages on, you, all of us, will realize we have squandered our priceless resources.

Good pen at work here.

Cheers,
Dan

I believe you are poetically correct.
The polar meltdown is staggering.
Even bugs that were once in abundance seemed to have disappeared.
We need to wake up and die right.
Amen, my friend.

An excellent reflection on our times, but if you think anything will change before we all kick off, I have to say you are way off the track, as we are heading for apocalypse and there is little to nothing that any of us can do about it...have fun while you can, -e-

Yep. The climate is having it way with us these scary days. I just hope to say out of its destrutive path . . . Eh . . . I live in the hurricane zone, however.

It is said that the world's axis has shifted and that had caused the climate changes everywhere. I don't know if there is anything the human race can do to race against the world's changes. My assumption is because of the advancement of the high technologies that may affect the magnetic forces of the world and the heat it may generate.

You make some great points in this "revelatory" poem. Perhaps you don't like that words, but don't worry. It doesn't mean you are a prophet, it just means that I find a bit of wisdom in your simple line: "We have to change our ways // all our bad habits to kick." Wise up, indeed, before we depart from this world, wondering what happened.

Very well said and written....A good presentation of facts....Like Sandie Angel mentioned, the earth's axis is shifting, along with the magnetic poles....And if the "Ring Of Fire" becomes more active....Like the Yellowstone Super Volcano....It will be Global Cooling a.k.a. "The Next Ice Age" that will our biggest concern....

On a daily basis, we bear witness to catastrophic climate changes. We can no longer afford not being environmentally proactive at every turn.

All I can say is you hit the bail on the head. Our earth won't disappear, but we will, and then the cockroaches will rule the world.

Now, Ron. You know 7 1/2 billion people and all the animals they eat can't possibly be disturbing the eco system.
Seriously well written.
