The Amazon is burning. Dry season conditions are worse this year and many of the 72 fires, mostly set by settlers to open land for farming, are burning out of control, sending huge plumes of smoke as far away as coastal Brazilian cities. Meanwhile, the Arctic permafrost continues to melt. Opening much of the Arctic for more mineral exploration and mining, along with commerce while destroying the natural habitat of Arctic animals.

Prayers will not answer, God will not save us, for what we have done by, simply indulging since our birth. In a few generations of greed, with prosperous leaning intentions, we have squandered and plundered, riches we have, with war and dearth. The Amazon is burning, indigenous people are yearning, running for all they are worth. The Arctic permafrost is thawing, indigenous people are trying, but finding it harder to live. The tip of the iceberg is showing, but leadership is sadly lacking, good intentions fall through the sieve. Billionaires are playing, with their projects often delaying, between what they take and give. The Amazon is burning, and we are fiddling our fortunes, on the wrong side of history, with our lack of positive action. The Amazon is burning, all that fine mahogany up in smoke. How will I panel my guesthouse or office? Punish the fire starters with a pen stroke! So get off that horse you're riding, and change your ways, mighty quick. Do not be the last person around, with your head in the sand, Dick. If we don't all do our part, to change the world right. We deserve what we get. Amazon burning may be our last fight. All those beautiful trees and shrubbery and vines and animals burned in a wink of an eye. Places where man has not even yet seen or explored are burning up and leaving nothing to further explore in the future...to say I know not what to do is a basic understatement but in all honesty, what else can any one do, short of sending aid to the country the fires are mostly in, but Venezuela so far has turned down help from other countries, so what else can we do??

On another note, I like what Richard expressed below, sounds like a real good plan for another write...wish I had thought of it, :) -e-

Sadly the leadership in Brasil does not want outside help because of outside influence. However, this is 20 percent of the worlds oxygen going up in flames. We can only hope and pray that people get smart and stop playing trivial political games!

My hearts with the Arctic, and my anger burns as hot as the Amazon. I feel helpless as I read the news or watch TV. We have a fight on our hands and also blood on our hands.

Such an apt, timely, and most sobering write, Ron. I have always been close to nature since my father showed me all that he could regarding the natural world and I grew to love it. Some 25 years ago, I took on the oil companies here (fuel stations for big trucks and such) and with the help of the local media and my constant letter writing to "officials" and the newspapers, eventually the companies (Shell, Chevron, Esso, Turbo etc) were fined one million dollars each for blatantly polluting a local stream. One million!!! That is chump change for those companies. The one thing that came out positively was that they had to upgrade their drainage and filtration systems to stop spilled diesel from flowing into nearby watercourses. Thank you for this write of yours. It is high time for the ostriches who are in denial to pull their heads out of the sand or some other place on their bodies. Love and peace,

I try to do my part, but I also know we need leadership that understands the seriousness of climate change, and like I said to a friend who doesn't believe in climate change, There is still nothing wrong with going green. I truly hope humans survive, but if we don't, we deserve what we get.

what i've seen from diff communities of diff paths and diff backgrounds, they are all/ we are all aware of this. because of this incident, political or not, fake or not, it had created a positive effect, as it sparked people to wake up. it had started raining in the amazon due to the collective's/ our effort to manipulate or pray for a weather change. those people/ us coming together as one is already a marvelous victory for a start. this is only a portion of a population, imagine once the whole world starts waking up to what they can do individually.

My heart breaks for all who need to breathe. It's going to be a bit ...........Let your weeds grow! Don't cut anything down! That's what I'm doing plus I planted bamboo on our lower proerty and it is getting thick. Grow aloe in your homes! Great and true write, Ron!!

It is a calamity, the ramifications of which could well be grave for the planets (and all humanities) health at some point. Time will tell. Perhaps you might write a second part to this, (with less us vs. them rancor) and suggest what you think our responsibilities and roles could be in making the earth whole again. R
