Vietnam--Listen

To the rain forest animate with sound


    how it haunts my mind in silent reverb


 


Amid the irritating drip of perpetual wetness


   and the mindless drone of insects endless


 


And of footfalls imagined


 


I stare into nothingness


 


Unreality . . . run rampant


 


Guessing to the unknowns


Of shadows and movements supposed or not


  


 I await


    in a war without end  


 


One with the spirits of the slain


 


The hours protracted


   in the randomness of time

It was one that seemed without an end and I do not beleive those that served this war have an end.
