The nest.........

I wish I could explain why, but this little family of birds picked a curve in our drain pipe to nest. Maybe because it is just under the overhead garage lights..... Most of the birds look for crevices or triangular spots between the bricks and the wood......

                                    The nest........

Sun shining bright in the heavens above,
temperature was warm, but not too hot.
Birds under shade in the tree out front,
taking turns feeding from the seed pot.

One family looking for a safe place to nest,
settled in the back on a drain pipe curve.
Back and forth they flew a number ofdays,

to create a sturdy home that would

not swerve.

The nest complete they cuddled and slept,
awaiting the arrival of their bundle of joy.
Within a few days papa squawked as he flew,
mama had laid her eggs, a girl, a boy.

In a matter of weeks heard a mellow chirping,
walked outside to see what was there.
Fuzzy little bobble heads trying to squeak,
necks stretched, mouths open, mama aware.

With nourishment she gathered from afar,
she quickly flew in to feed her brood.
Patiently she leaned over to feed each one,
hoping this would put them in a better mood.

Papa flew close to protect his nest,
from pesky pests and other birds too near.
He made his way from a pole to the roof,
protecting his family from all and any fear.

Sun had moved slowly across the sky,
to settle in as it does a little further west.
Mama used her wings to cover her babies,
while papa stood guard protecting his nest.

Karen, this kept me on the edge of my seat because as I read line after line I was afraid a predator was going to attack the nest. I love watching baby birds & their parents. The parents are so loyal and true to their babies. This is surely a keeper.
