Just a bit of observing all my friends before they disappear, only to return again next Spring.......

Poem Artwork

                                      Change...........

           Beautiful warm late summer day,
sun intensely shining, gentle breeze flowing.
Birds outside singing their melodic  tunes,
  squirrels scampering, mother nature sowing.

A change in the air, can sense fall coming,
my animal friends will soon bid goodbye.
Few birds stay behind, the feeders will
                            be filled,
but all too soon, the sun will fade in the sky.

For the bunnies, pellets and carrots to eat,
placed in the landscaping and garden in back.
Toads and geckos we leave outside lights on,
foraging for food is easier than when it
                            is black.

All through the night they patiently wait,
toads on the ground, geckos resting on bricks.
Waiting for the right moment to make
                           their strike,
small insects emerge, very stealthily doing
                          their tricks.

Baby toads and newborn geckos huddle,
stay safe from harm in one small place.
Amazing to watch, their skin glistens
                           in light,
all God's creatures, in daylight not a trace.

Cleaning the gutters, digging up our garden,
easier to prepare before it begins turning cold.
Before you know it, we will be raking leaves,
filling lawn and leaf bags, boy this gets old.

By the tick of the clock, darkness approaches,
earlier and earlier, but it slithers in slow.
Doves are hovering on freshly cut grass,
bellies full, a needed respite before they go.

Baby birds in their nest sit and swoon,
               high pitched peep-peep an
                  unmistakable sound.
Warm, light rain gently blankets the area,
as if to cover and protect all the animals
                           around.

Nature at its finest. Isn't it funny how our electric lights attract insects and make the little frogs and toads' feast more easily?

A lot of the critters seem to stay here, even through the winter. With snow piled on the bird feeder, there still is a huge group of birds draining the seed on a daily basis. I loved this seasonal poem. It seems that we are all feeling the change of season now, perhaps it is the cooler nights and shorter days.
Take care,
Sherry

A change of season beckons here. . .Wonderfully put!
Fall is my favorite time of year! I hope it lasts a little longer and skips right over winter. I have seen that happen here in Florida, a few times.
Anything below 60 and I'm wishing for Spring!
Sounds like your home sits amid a world of outdoor discoveries!
Loved it!
Love and Peace~

Whatever happened to my world? before I can see toads and hear crickets...like the rest of Natures's world are angry with us.
Silence and absence are a harsh punishment.
Maybe we deserve it.

A wonderful picture of the changing season. Although the nights begin earlier and earlier, I now turn to thoughts of snuggling on the couch with the pellet stove"s flame dancing on the hardwood floors. Thanks for a comforting start to my day. Much appreciated.

Now that you mention it, I have not seen one toad in the eleven years I have lived out here. Hmmm. Maybe the fire ants ate 'em all up. I'm gettin on eBay right now and buyin a bunch of anteaters! Then you can send me some toads. Love your poem, and the work you do as Mother Nature's helper (and bard).

It is sad when the critters that brought so much joy during the summer, disappear in the winter. As corny as it may sound, I admire what you do for those who stay behind. Scouring for food is a lot more difficult for them than it used to be. Thanks for that reminder.

Blessings,
Kathy

Sweet little froggie; getting ready to go away for the fall/winter until next spring. I Am looking forward to the cooler temps; I can't take the heat anymore; I find as I grow older, the harder it is for me. Give me the cold weather anyday! :) (I am NOT a snowbird; I want to go back to where it's cold--or preferably all the way to ALASKA! :) )

(((HUGS))) and much love, your friend in Burleson, Karen Lynn. :D
