The first day of
Autumn dawns
Clear and crisp with
The sun shining
Joyfully
Amongst the leaves
Of trees
Just beginning
To turn.
Fall has come
To the mountains;
It is
A time of harvest
And gratitude,
A time to say goodbye
To the heat and humidity
Of summer,
To bask in the glory
Of nature
As it begins to prepare
For winter's sleep.
It dropped about 10° and we are getting occasional showers from our own neighborhood tropical storm, making up for a long dry spell that ended our summer. No sign of anyone bundling up to go to sleep for the winter here. Most creatures just hide out for a little while and come out on warm days. What we lack most is all of the color that I missed so much from my childhood growing up, up north.
A book of nature inspired poems and essays, written from the heart and soul of a life-long nature, animal, and wilderness lover, and dedicated to today’s children - Earth's only hope for a better tomorrow.
