"The Shortest Fireworks Show In History"

Let me take you back...way back in time,
Way waaaay back, to nineteen sixty nine,
Karen and I had just turned ten years old,
And this is how this story unfolds...

Severe storms had formed on Lake Erie,
No worries here, our weather, cheery,
We went to see the fireworks show,
At our high school in Ontario (OHIO),  :-)

Lightning was flashing up to the north,
That day we celebrated the Fourth,
We weren't worried, as it got dark,
We waited for fireworks to spark,

All of a sudden...FLASH!  Lightning struck,
The middle of the display...what luck!!
Fireworks went off, all at one time,
The night lit up like it was daytime,

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

The biggest explosions ever heard!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

Then I heard someone say a cuss-word

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

Our eyes shrank from the lightning's display

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!

Mother Nature had the final say!!


We all fell off the bleachers that night,
Gasping and terrified by the sight,
No one was hurt so we all went home,
The night the fireworks show was blown,

Show over before it had begun,
Storms had robbed us of all of the fun,
We watched as storm after storm rolled in,
That night Nature looked at us and grinned.
