Gotcha! LOL

sleeping in a dark, secluded
corner of a poet's brain
is a muse
suddenly a noise piques her
interest; a delicious
smell twitches her nose

she comes awake
for goodness sakes

alert now, she searches for
the disturbance that
interrupted her dreams
it was only her pet
fumblingstumblingstubbing a toe
cursing while turning on the computer

it's three o'clock
methinks she's crocked

silently, the muse hops down the
stairs one-by-one-by-one (12 in all)
on bunny slippered feet
goes into the living room where
she sees her pet blinking
stupidly at a blank screen

"why won't words come
i must be dumb"

the muse rolls marbled eyes
in frustration
she's been through this before
nearly every night
her pet can't sleep so she
makes sure no one else will, either

and so, they write
throughout the night

it's a poet's right to be a
little mad
to get up at all hours when
the words strike
it's too bad, however, that
the muse has to suffer

from lack of sleep
price of fame, steep

the only thing the muse hopes
is that her pet will
remember her when she is a
celebrated author
and that she'll be able to take
a long overdue vacation

the poem, done
the best, this one

suddenly, a bolton twist of lightning
zaps the transformer right outside
the window
!the power goes out!  !!the computer
explodes!! ... and it's back
to the beginning, in the dark

maybe next time
there'll be more rhyme*
