Though colostomy is often a life-saving procedure, it carries with it a fairly high degree of humiliation also. None of us want to have to deal with the sorts of negatives associated with that surgery. Thankfully, for Karen, it is only a temporary situation. I have a friend who had cancer and in her early 30's she was given a colostomy and she will be living with it for the rest of her years. The positive side is that she has 3 young boys she will be able to see grow up. The negative is that it has sort of taken the romance out of her marriage. I pray that Karen will be able to look beyond the negatives of her surgery and focus on her future with the knowledge that this is a temporary inconvenience. I'm rooting for you Karen!!! Be strong and comfortable with yourself through this difficult time.

When we laugh at the cuves life throws at us we sometimes hit a home run as you have in this light hearted write.

I agree with Lena, sometimes laughter is the best medicine...this is temporary is a positive...I have a friend that we go to church with who is enduring the same as Karen, I might share this with him, he also loves to laugh..great write. Again, so glad that your back at the den...and your sister is as we say here in Kentucky on the mend.

Laughter is often the best medicine, I find. But for Karen, this too will pass. I remember when I had to have a tube stuck down my throat and had to write notes because my throat was too soar and I didn't want to speak. Laughter came when my precious brother began write notes back to me...you see, there was nothing wrong with my hearing, was there? Oh well! You did well to make your sister smile even in her discomfort.

Karla, I'm about one more operation away from a colostomy and I have to tell you, humor is the best medicine. I've had crohns for about 40 years and have found that once we 'digestive challenged'(smiles) people accept what is, it gets all better. Loved the ditty.
